Most people don't use a headtorch, as it tends to reflect off your hands and dazzles. The best set-up, is to attach a torch to the boat well forward of the paddle entry. Or, I just paddle by star light or moonlight, which ever is out at the time.... if a barge is coming towards you, then just get out on the bank.
