Job Description: The field assistant will conduct rock chip and soil sampling for 8 hours per day on our projects throughout the Kuskokwim Region. The work will be done under the supervision of a field geologist. The work This includes sample collection and sample transport to various pick up points. We will be based out of Bethel, Aniak, Sleetmute, and McGrath throughout the summer and transported to field sites by helicopter. Newmont covers all transportation costs from the applicant’s Kuskokwim-area village to the camp and field and from sites and room and board once on site. Any candidate should be able to carry a 40 pound backpack over rough terrain for significant portion of the day.
Experience: Previous experience with topo maps and gps units is beneficial, but we are willing to train. Any previous experience in field work or environmental work is a plus but not required
Pay Rate: $150 per day
Timing/Schedule: The position starts May 26th and ends September 8th. The schedule is approximately 4 weeks on/ 2 weeks off.
