He has wrestled successfully against opponents as high as 87 pounds. So we are at the OTHER end of the spectrum. Wrestling in four-person round robin blocks has given him chances to wrestle a variety of wrestlers, we have done that twice now this year. He has also been "bumped" up over and over in a weigh-in situation. I like the idea of weight ranges especially if you iniatiate a % factor. Obviously 9% for a 70 pounder and a 140 pounder is more equal than a base number of pounds like you see on some tournament rules (ex: weight within 15 pounds) and yes I have seen that number or higher used. I would rather see a wrestler work hard at 119 weighing 116 than a sick, pale starving kid making 112 week in and week out!

How rampant? More than I am comfortable with. I believe that kids need normal rates of nutrition and other than kids with excess body FAT they should maintain a standard of weight that does not include fasting or sweating to lose weight. More emphasis should be on health issues and body "size".
