Posted by Michael Mahonen on 4/14/2005, 4:24 pm I hope everyone is well. For anyone in the Roanoke, Virginia area, "Sandstorm" will be screening there at a festival next weekend. I will be there and will do a Q&A after the screening. There is also a festival in LA that same weekend and a festival in Trenton, New Jersey the weekend after that. I will also be in Trenton for that screening, followed by a Q&A. The info for the festivals is below. Friday April 15 @ 8:00pm, $6 Saturday April 16 @ 10:15 pm, Free Sunday May 1, 2005 @ 10:00am, $8 I will also be acting in a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" this summer in North Bay, Ontario, which is a city of about 50,000, located about 3 hours south of Kirkland Lake, where I was born and raised. It is about a four hour drive north of Toronto. David Fox will also be in the production, playing the role of Prospero. David was born and raised very near Kirkland Lake as well, in a place called, "Swastika". The small town had that name before Hitler stole the Swastika symbol, coloured it black, tipped on an angle and used it for the Nazis. It has actually been a very spiritual symbol for several thousand years, and has been found in historical artifacts on almost every continent. (Bit of a tangent there, sorry.) Anyway, I’ll be playing the role of Stephano, one of the classic comic roles in the play. The show will run for two weeks (with a possible third week added) at the beginning of August. On another note, I would like to draw attention to a pretty urgent situation involving a television station that worked with us to make "Sandstorm". The TV station is called New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) and together we created New Tang (Tang rhymes with "rung") Dynasty Films, which is the production company for "Sandstorm". NTDTV is the only Chinese language TV station, which is not controlled by the Chinese government, that has actually found a way to broadcast into China, via satellite. It is the only objective source of truthful information the people in China can see and hear, other than risking their safety by trying to get to truthful internet sites that have been blocked by China’s massive government firewall. For example, NTDTV was the first media in the world to report that SARS actually started in China. They broke that story three weeks before the Chinese government admitted they had hidden that fact from the rest of the world. If NTDTV had not broken that story, SARS may have become a massive epidemic, as no one would have know where it had originated and how and where it was spreading. NTDTV has also been reporting truthfully on the persecution of Falun Gong, which allows people in China to learn that the slanderous information they have been hearing from the government run TV stations about Falun Gong is not true. Many people have stopped being involved in helping to persecute practitioners after learning the truth from NTDTV. Each time NTDTV has entered into a contract with a satellite broadcaster, the Chinese government has contacted the satellite company and offered them a huge contract – under the condition that they drop NTDTV. The Chinese government needs only 6 satellites to cover 99% of the world’s population with their own TV broadcasts, however they have contracts on 30 different satellites. They have done this to prevent NTDTV from airing the truth into China. It would be greatly appreciated if you would take a couple of minutes to sign an online petition that speaks out against this activity. Above, I have included a link to a web site that explains more about what is happening. On the left of the webpage are links for the petition, etc. The petition is to be delivered to the U.S. government in the next day or two, so if you are interested in signing, please do so soon. The U.S. is actually one of this satellite company's biggest clients, so their voice will be heard if they are moved to do something. The more signatures, the more likely the U.S. government will take a stand. As far as the play this summer, I will get back with more detailed info on the dates and venue, etc. All the very best to everyone. Mickey
