Posted by Nan on 11/27/2001, 9:39 am To coincide with National AIDs Awareness Day on December 1st, 'Opening Night' will air the film "The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccomatios" starring the two Michaels, Riley & Mahonen. (who incidentally, became the best of friends after working on this film together) Michael Riley won the Gemini Award for his portrayal of 'Author'...Mickey plays the ill-fated 'Paul' (and IMHO, he should have also garnered a Gemini for his portrayal). This is a 5 hankie film, based on the novel by acclaimed Canadian author Yann Martel. It was actually his first published book. This is my all time FAVOURITE Michael Mahonen role! He is simply and heartbreakingly wonderful as Paul! Also, I would HIGHLY recommend reading the book. It is an excellent tome with 3 short stories. If you can't find it at your local library, I have the link to alibris.com, an out- of-print on-line bookstore, which is where I finally tracked down my copy. The film captures on my page are all courtesy of Leota's Michael Mahonen Page. You can find a link to her site on MickeyVision. Enjoy!!! Nan, who HOPES to have some more film captures in the future!

Also, on Thursday, November 29th, the LUCKY Canadian viewers, and those who receive the CBC feed (and may I again STRESS how LUCKY you are???) can catch Michael at 8pm in the programme series 'Opening Night'. It has aired ONLY ONCE and that was in 1996.
I'm including the link below (because I am lazy) to my "Facts" page at MickeyVision. It gives a brief critique of the film and provides a link for ordering the book, if you are interested, & a link to THE BEST Michael Riley site.
