Greetings everyone! My name is Michael J. Corey from Kasbeer, IL. I am going to throw my hat into the ring for the possible nomination to the AMA Board of Directors North Central Region. You may remember me as the MX newcomer last year that rode a 1974 Honda CR250M in the Vintage 250 intermediate class. This year I'm riding in the innovation class. I need to get the signatures of 50 AMA members that reside in the North Central Region on a petition so I can be considered for a nomination. Your signature isn't a vote for me, it just gives me the ability to be considered for nomination.
A little bit about myself.
I started riding motorcycles at the age of 10, way back in 1969. My first "real" motorcycle was a 60cc Harley Davidson. I started racing at age 18 (flattrack of course) shortly after I graduated high school, on a Suzuki RM125B, then a Redline framed Yamaha 250. I raced for 8 years, marriage and then children forced a spell of "retirement". In 2002 I made the decision to come out of retirement, and give flattrack a try again. I currently race a 1974 Honda XL350/412, and a 1956 Harley Davidson "Hummer" in Vintage and Antique flattrack. Just last year I decided to give Vintage MX a try, so I bought a 1974 Honda CR250M Elsinore, and race it in the Midwest Vintage MX series. There are 11 motorcycles sitting in my garage, with my van outside because the bikes take precedence over the auto. But that's pretty typical for people like us, or at least that's what I keep telling my wife! Besides my AMA membership, I am also a member of AHRMA.
What spawned my decision to try for the BOD was the recent divorce between the AMA and AHRMA. If reconciliation between these two organizations is possible, I'd like to be a part of it. Also I would like to work with local Districts to see about reinstating AMA District wide referees. I am big on rules enforcement, especially rules that are in place for safety reasons. All too often I see safety rules that get put on the back burner, or ignored entirely. A District wide referee would be available to see to it that safety is first and foremost, and can not be compromised for one minute.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for signing my petition if I ask at Hixton this weekend. See you there!
