Not entirely moot. Testament continue to issue some of their more ground-breaking issues on LP - The Knappertsbusch Gotterdammerung, and, most notably, the first release of the Keilberth '55 Bayreuth Ring. They are formidably expensive but from what I have heard the sound is pretty much state of the art for historical releases.
