That holistic argument sounds convincing, Anne, coming from a connoisseur, & I'm tempted to get this, not least because Goerne at his best does seem to be the most exciting baritone around & because "even more modern than Gielen" is an irresistible lure! As you realize in your other mail, the 1925 Universal Edition translation cannot be the text that forms the basis for the German text Zemlinsky used in a work he completed in 1922. Obviously - this wouldn't be the first or last time - some incompetent was charged with translating the German text to avoid paying royalties. The online text I gave the link for is the original English version of 1913 that was translated into so many languages. Copyright has now lapsed, of course, and the record company has simply blundered here.
