I just noticed some messages posted earlier regarding deteriorating CDs. I too had some trouble with the original EMI (not the current Great Recordings of the Century)CD of Verdi's Falstaff with Tito Gobbi, Shwarzkopf and Karajan. Both CDs had that mouldy, brown, cloudy tinge on the mirrored side. I mentioned this to the local EMI agancy and eventually had them replaced for free. Regarding the foam inserts, I found them deteriorating badly in most of the old albums to the point they either disintegrated on touch or had attached themselves to the CD itself. I discarded all of them immediately and have had no problems so far. However, having said that I do think that CD producers should take responsibility for any mishap on their CDs which occur through no fault of the owners. After all when CDs first came on the scene one of their marketing points was their indestructability.
