Posted by dominy Clements I'm sure all of us listen with critical ears to all review recordings, and I've been known to point out tape hiss on so-called DDD releases, and suspect 33 rpm clicks and end of side distortion on discs where there has been no mention of LPs as a source. I don't care one way or the other, but cannot stand deception and dishonesty. Rest assured that I shall (probably) be more than circumspect in future when it comes to the excessively muscular athleticism of elderly pianists, although that's the depressing point as far as I'm concerned - without real trust and faith in human nature not to be greedy (and it is of course a fairly rare thing in our field thank goodness), all we can do is wait for 'the next time'.

Thanks John. I do agree with those who point out that the name Joyce Hatto will now, unfortunately, ever be associated with this shameful scandal, rather than with her true legacy. One can only hope that the noteriety of this case elevates the work of artists like Paul Kim to greater recognition: there's no such thing as bad publicity after all!
