The story might wash except for the orchestral recordings, also things like Godowsky and Massiaen. He even told at least one person that she'd conducted Mozart concertos from the keyboard in the last year of her life and he didn't know how he was going to issue them because she died before recording the cadenzas! Remember, the only person who has come forward with any info about these orchestral sessions claims to have played in a performance of Rach 3 in Prague played by Richter, who never performed the work.
It looks as if he's been reading my scenarios and chosen the one that lets him get out with a modicum of honour.
The possibility of those earlier cassettes being genuine has always seemed plausible to me. She had not been long retired when she made them. Whatever their technical quality, they're the only chance we have, apart from the Bax and the early Sagas, of knowing how she really played.
