Posted by anne on February 26, 2007, 7:01 pm, in reply to "Re: Hatto? Ha!" Focussing too much on Hatto distracts attention from looking into Concert Artists whole catalogue. Claiming it was "love" that motivated W B- is a convenient escape clause. It "closes" the issue, and deflects further investigation into what might or might not be an infinitely bigger enterprise. It's also unfair on Hatto because it blames her indirectly. Inconvenient as it might be, there may be more to this. What makes this such an elaborate puzzle is that reality and untruth are blended together so carefully. The "real" parts lend credibility to what might concievably not be not quite what it seems.

All the attention so far has been focussed on Joyce Hatto. It's unfair on her, complicit or not. (The Cambridge interview certainly doesn't show her as "dotty") Surely if W B-C could do this in one case he could have done it in others ? We have that interesting article about Saga Records which freely admits that the label was not about Paul Procoplis scams - a prototype perhaps ?
There are artists there, whose list of recordings is surprisingly huge. And a Cortot specialist might want to look carefully at the Cortot recordings. If only to prove they're legit.
