I have to agree with Len on this. Looking again at the Hatto 'editions' I was given for review, you have to hand it to whoever made the things that the forgeries are about as convincing as you can get. I would however still trust my ability to spot a fake if the original was available and to hand for comparison. I even get suspicious if repeats in a single performance sound too similar, and if I hear the same split note at the repeat of a theme or motief then I will mention it and take the risk of being called Mr. Picky. We can all be wise with hindsight, and I'm sure all concerned have been asking themselves the same questions on this subject. Rest assured however, anyone with any sense in the recording business knows all to well that such practice will always be found out sooner or later, and I am sure there is no-one who would knowingly shoot themselves in the foot in this way - especially when the music business, or at the very least your avarage Conservatoire or Academy, is simply crawling with amazing new talent these days.
