In view of the obsequious interview with "Saint William" by Ann McFerran in yesterday's Sunday Times" ("Sun" for short), MusicWeb readers may be interested to know that last Friday week a different journalist from the same paper telephoned me in Milan and we spoke for almost half an hour on matters relating to my article "Some thought, some questions and a lot of letters". She was interested in my suggestion that a psychologist should be asked to comment on what these letters reveal about the emotional state of the person who wrote them, or if alternatively they suggest a simulated personality. We exchanged a few emails over the following few hours. She seemed genuinely interested in finding out what had happened. On Saturday evening the journalist sent me a further email, regretting that the story hadn't made it to the press. Further comment is superfluous.
