I think the "extremely rare tape of Cocteau in late life with Stravinsky conducting" might be in fact this recording, which CBS issued in the USA with the narration as taped by Cocteau; I had the LP, gave it to a dear friend & kept a taped copy, which I would love to replace if it were not for the German version of the narration (produced for the original radio transmission) which cannot compete with the original French - what a lost opportunity! (Archipel is, of course, a German firm). The Supraphon Ancerl version with Jean Desailly narrating magnificently in French is urgently recommended. Though I am a great Mödl fan I must admit to finding her a bit unwieldy in the awkward Stravinskyan divisions. Pears is wonderful, as you say.
