What a joy it is to see the consistent reissue of, and issue of new, Lyrita recordings after all the years of waiting and wondering. It's a particular pleasure to see lined up for June reissue the wonderful Edward Downes recordings of George Lloyd's Fourth, Fifth, and Eighth Symphonies, on which we first learned these gorgeous works all those years ago. Maybe they will raise interest in Lloyd again now that the flow of new recordings on Albany has hit the bottom of the barrel. However (there's always a but), where in the Lyrita reissue programme are the equally fine recordings of Havergal Brian's equally wonderful Symphonies 6 & 16? Month by month as all sorts of other things turn up they remain obstinately missing from the lists. Anyone know? And does anyone think, as I do, that they were always one of the sets MOST, not least, urgently needing to be brought back into the light? The only thing better would be some NEW Brian recordings!
