Thanks John. Your comments tend to confirm my assumptions. Having resumed my exploration of this repertoire after several years collecting Russian/Soviet music, I was beginning to think that I had missed some obvious deficiency in these works. At the very least I thought that these symphonies might be considered 'worthy but dull' - a view that I certainly do not share. It would be nice if the BBC made further amends for their past exclusion by broadcasting any remaining works that have not had a recent hearing.
