I think that for those not yet infected by the Offenbach bug, the classic Leibowitz versions (available on Regis &/or Andromeda) should be recommended with all due emphasis. The fantastic Renaud/Barrault company La Vie Parisienne (1 disc on Musidisc) seems, alas, to be no longer available.
