When I last met Malcolm Binns he did not think we should ever see this recording, but recently there has been reason to be encouraged. Quite by chance I discovered today that the recording has been released, and with a bit of luck I shall have it tomorrow. Like Mr France I have been waiting for this for years; like him I am excited; and I thought I was the only one to refer to Standford as the Great Man. This is neither the time or the place for a 'pre-review', but I thank him for his and I rejoice. Obviously Mr France is a man after my own heart – which probably explains why I agree with him about the bowen Viola Concerto too. Oddly enough I also have strong railway connections, working as I do for a large firm of consulting engineers in Croydon, of whose Railway Division Mr France is doubtless well aware.
