The differences of opinion seem very marked with this latest Rattle release. It seems Gramophone and IRR agree with John Quinn, the latter even trumpeting on its September cover 'perfection in Haydn'. Well, we all know about soundbites, and I haven't heard this set, but I am still tempted to buy, as much by what I've heard of Rattle's Haydn in the past, either live or that marvellous EMI disc of 60, 70 and 90, which has always beena staple of my collection over the years. I know Rattle has gone off the boil in Berlin (for some)but he is very experienced in Haydn. Still, perhaps I should also try before I buy...
