In his review of this collection of reissues Johan van Veen wonders whether texts and translations were included with the original releases. Three of the CDs in question were originally issued by EMI Classics. These discs, which I bought when they were first issued, contained full notes, texts and translations.
The odd one out was the second disc in this old/new anthology, "Nine centuries of seasonal music." Most, if not all of the contents of this was issued as the cover CD with the BBC Music Magazine (Vol II, No 1) but I'm not aware this was ever issued in any other format. In that case documentation was pretty basic - no information on the piano used in the Liszt pieces, for instance.
The original catalogue numbers of the other discs were:
CD 1: Festive Music from Europe and America (originally issued as "The Christmas Album"): 0777 7 54529 2 1
CD 3: The Carol Album I: Seven centuries of Christmas music (original title retained): CDC 7 49809 2
CD 4: The Carol Album II: Seven centuries of Christmas music (original title also retained): 0777 7 54902 2 0
These are excellent discs but I hope the above information will help collectors avoid any unnecessary duplication.
