As a brass player, it's always been known to me as 'Vinter' (perhaps rather by accident rather than design). Haven't read the article in question yet but I do know that he wrote some wonderful brass band pieces. His 'Spectrum' was controversial at the time for its 'modern' sounds, something bands were not used to in the 1960s.
His pieces are still relatively popular with bands nowadays, I believe. Indeed, 'James Cook, Circumnavigator' is currently being used as the 1st section test piece for the regional qualifiers of the National Brass Band Championships.
I must admit, I've never listened to his light orchestral works, but seeing this thread may well prompt me to explore them! Any particular recommendations?
