I can sympathise with this sort of error. Although my surname is perhaps more open to mis-spellings, believe me, there are people I have known for years who still insist on sticking an 'e' on the end of it! ;-)

I suspect it is simply because many people were named by their profession so Vintner is subconciously anticipated.

I equally and frequently get mispelt as Mullinger
