In my Reviewer’s log this month I mentioned Villa-Lobos’s 5th symphony of 1920, the score of which Grove says is lost. I have since found some further information on the Heitor Villa Lobos website although the last relevant posting is dated 25 August 1999. Apparently there is still some hope since the third symphony was lost for some time and then turned up. Plans for a performance of the 5th in 1950 had to be cancelled when the score couldn’t be found!
If anyone knows anything more about this work, I’d be interested to hear about it.
