Like Rob Barnett, I greatly welcomed the return of this "old friend" from my early days of collecting Lyrita LPs. It's reappearance at a similar time to Havergal Brian's 6th and 16th Symphony and David Morgan's Violin Concerto and "Contrasts" is a cause of triple rejoicing for me!
I just wanted to say there is a depth of feeling in this performance which, in my view, despite the technical infelicities of Miss Coetmore's playing, transcends that of the(very good) Chandos alternative recording. Maybe this has something to do with Boult's magisterial accompaniment with the LPO. Whatever the reasons (and they may well be partly connected with nostalgia), I was delighted by the reappearance of this recording.
