"He is not as slow as many pianists, particularly the late Sviatislav Richter who many regard as great Schubertian in spite of some characteristic eccentricities." Very eccentric, that Sviatoslav, especially his habit of playing the prescribed repeat in the 1st movement of D.960, which just happens to be introduced by a remarkably "modern" passage which otherwise goes unheard - of course, it makes the movement unconscionably long...Am I the only person to find Brendel's recording of this (which i bought as an LP) remarkably - uninspiring?
