Thanks Martin for the clarification of the origins of KIpnis's recordings. I remember a mid-price RCA Camden LP ages ago with several of these rcordings. As for Mark Reizen's Boris that was a mistake although I have to admit that I can't remember hearing him in that role. For a mature and deeply gripping - scenically too - Ivan Susanin with Reizen, follow my link to his 90-years-performance where there also is an undated clip from that opera. I was wondering at first if it was playing at the wrong speed - he sounds almost tenoral to begin with - but I believe it's the real thing. A truly great singer! Reizen was of course more of a basso cantante with none of the raw Slavonic power of Kipnis.
