The English String Series English
Whilst investigating Roger Quilter’s Gypsy Life: Fantasy Quintet I discovered a collection of string orchestra/ensemble pieces edited by Alec Rowley. These include music by Dunhill, Thiman, Purcell and Julian Herbage. Some of the names strike a chord and are suggestive of much enjoyable listening for British Music enthusiasts. Consider the Rivers of Devon Suite and the Bracebridge Hall Suite!
Eleven pieces were published by Goodwin & Tabb between about 1929 and 1937.
See the list at The Land of Lost Content - English Music Blog posted on 6th June 2008.
Does anyone know about any of these works? I guess that only the Quilter is recorded. Copies are available in the British Library- but perhaps someone out there has a copy of one or more of the scores?
