Some Balkanton material has emerged on CD under other labels.
Most accessible is probably the Mahler symphony cycle conducted by Tabakov with the Sofia Philarmonic on Capriccio: Most of the cycle (1-6 and 10) is stated as produced by Balkanton.
There is a similar situation regarding Bartok Piano Concerti 1-3 (Dikov, SPO, Manilov) released in the late 1980s on the obscure AVM label.
A final example: Brilliant Classics released a Bizet Carmen performed by Sofia forces. Although the information is omitted, this could well be another Balkanton production. The performance was licenced from Delta, who field the Capriccio label - some of Brilliant's stuff seems to go through several companies on its path to their label!
The Mahler and Bartok were reviewed by Gramophone - generally unfavourably. My ears detect competent performances - but dear old Gramophone 10 or 20 years seemed gripped by a prejudice against unfamiliar sources...a comment I think noted elsewhere on this notice board.
