I am pleased to hear about the rude state of health of Mr Berry's digestive system and its lack of impact on his review. However
I think it only right to point out that in my comments on the review I made no mention of audience reaction as I completely agree that is no measure of the quality of a performance . My comments were my impression and as I said I accept differences of opinion. However I do find it somewhat patronising that there seems to be an assumption that as Mr Berry is a "Wagner scholar" (his own description) he knows better than a mere member of the audience whose only credentials are a lifelong love of music in general and Wagner in particular. Where would we be without scholars setting our standards and telling us what to enjoy?
