An information alert for lovers of ‘French Grand Opera’.
In October 2009 I am presenting different programmes of ‘French Grand Opera’ at two ‘Recorded Music Societies' in Blackpool and Preston in the North-West of England. Should anyone be interested in attending these two events the details are as follows:
‘The Forgotten Golden Years’
‘The Grandest of French Grand Opera’
The first presentation will be at Blackpool, Lancashire on Thursday 1st October 2009 at 7.30pm.
The Blackpool Recorded Music Society meet at the Baptist Church hall, St. Annes Road, FY4 2AP. The hall is adjacent to the Fire station and approximate 200 yards south of the junction with Waterloo Road and St. Annes Road.
As a guide the programme will trace the history of the early golden years French Grand Opera and will mainly include beautiful and moving arias from operas sung by the greatest singers on the finest recordings. The opera excerpts will be interspersed with some instrumental/chamber music of the day:

‘The Grandest of French Grand Opera’
The second presentation will be at Preston, Lancashire on Friday 9th October 2009 at 7.30pm.
The Preston Recorded Music Society meet at St. George's Church in the Hall, St. Georges Road near Lune Street. Website www.prms.org.uk
The programme will follow the Parisian career of Giacomo Meyerbeer probably the greatest composer in the history of French Grand Opera. In addition there will be a selection of music from the most famous composers of the day working in Paris.
I have chosen many beautiful and moving arias from operas sung by the greatest singers on the finest recordings:
