He would have of course been an old man with considerable motor difficulties at that time. So far as I know another Klemperer Bruckner 8 from Koeln in the late 1950s was faithful to Nowak.
Given what we know of Bruckner performance and the interventions of the Schalk brothers and others, along with only quite recent interest in the fuller first editions, it is not too difficult to imagine that there were any number of truncated performances of Bruckner symphonies during the earlier part of the twentieth century.
