In his review Gavin Dixon writes about the performance of an aria by Mozart: "Van Rijen is joined in his warm bath of an acoustic by tenor Marcel Beekman and the period ensemble Combattimento Consort." This could suggest the Combattimento Consort uses period instruments. But although the focus of the ensemble is on music from 1600 to 1800 they use modern instruments, which are played according to the princoples of the historical performance practice.
