As to Martha Mödl, I am somewhat bemused by the claim that this RAI Ring is "her only complete Brünnhilde on record" - even apart from the Keilberth Bayreuth Ring of 1955 (excerpts I have heard suggest a heavier, less poetic performance), that of 1953 shows her (and Keilberth) at her best. Even native German-speaking Wagnerian singers nowadays seldom have the kind of engagement with Wagner's expressive verbal tapestry that Mödl, Klose, or Suthaus could manage while singing on a line.
