If the normal English word is 'piano', then the use of 'pianoforte' suggests there is something different about this instrument.
In Belgium the Dutch-language classical channel always talks about 'pianoforte' if they mean the 'fortepiano'. And on a German site - it was JPC I think - the Italian word 'pianoforte' was also once interpreted as 'Hammerklavier', the common German word for 'fortepiano'. So there is every reason to be aware of a possible misunderstanding.
