Dear Martin (if I may), I do admit in retrospect that using the technical term 'plainchant' to refer to a secular monody is not ideal, but I did think that if it's OK for Richard Whitehouse and Naxos, it'll do for me. And RW is quite insistent about it, not to mention uncorrected since 1975!
As to the other point, you did say, "The poem is quite clearly not about blissful experiences, so the music isn't either." Your "so" indicates adduction, doesn't it?
Meanwhile, I've just finished reviewing the first two 'Strathclyde' discs from Naxos. You've got me triple-checking every word...
