If you manage to listen to Berglund's Shost 5 I would be most interested in your expert comments.I love the performance but am pretty sure that I shouldn't! It is rather unconventional in that it is in no way excitable or histrionic (a la Bernstein/Gauk). I find it difficult to describe and the best I can manage is "classical" - not generally a word used with Shostakovich. It stresses the symphonic structure (in the second movement somewhat at the expense of irony) but find it mightily convincing. Any comments would be welcomed.
