I do find it slightly disconcerting, though, that you state "I’ve long cherished the Abbado/LSO and Boulez/Chicago accounts of The Miraculous Mandarin suite (both on DG)." In fact they are both recordings of the whole ballet. Of course I agree that the Abbado (I don't know the Boulez) is superb; for a wonderful recording of the Suite plus other works by Hindemith and Varèse I would myself recommend the superbly played and engineered disc by Jean Martinon on RCA.
