Re: Decca Eclipse LPs
Chris I stand corrected. In my ignorance and not until after posting my comments did I realise my mistake. Since then I have discovered that the Decca Eclipse records are as you say mono recordings electronically enhanced for stereo effect. The outer sleeve makes this clear but only on closer scrutiny of the small print along the sleeves edge but the disk itself is clearly marked STEREO also the date on the two disks is 1971 so I naturally thought I was buying stereo records and was surprised to find I was not. I thought I was buying Decca budget stereo re-releases. Initially I was disappointed but you have rekindled my interest as I now see these in a different light. Knowing they are historical recordings that are worthy of enhancement I will return to them with a new perspective in mind! Although I still remain a little skeptic regarding what could be described as 'mild sharp marketing'. How many of these disks were sold to those unaware of what they truly were buying?
