I think this illustrates a problem with downloads in that releases such as these don't get the media coverage that CD/BD-A/DVD releases get. Indeed, to the best of my Knowledge MusicWeb is one of the few review publications that gives fairly consistent coverage to downloads - and even then our main focus is on 'hard' media releases. It's not so much of a problem if a release is offered on both download and CD; in that case an intending purchaser will often be able to read a review of the CD version.
Some years ago I bought most of the superb boxes of CDs that the NYPO released, including their 'Mahler Broadcasts' box - these were quite widely reviewed in magazines at the time, as I recall. But I'm afraid that beyond a vague awareness that the orchestra has been making some performances available via download those performances have totally passed me by. Dare one suggest that perhaps those releasing recordings in download format only have not been promoting them sufficiently widely by getting them reviewed?
Incidentally, I see from the Seen and Heard archive that Maazel performed Das Lied von der Erde as part of his London cycle and also, in the same concert, the Adagio of the 10th. It is to be hoped that these performances will be included in the Signum series.
