there is a single timpani part - Bruckner does not write for multiple players in this Symphony. The score does ask for 3 harps but they all play the same part - given their appearance in one movement only I think one can forgive the economic imperative of not always following the exact instruction in the score. Shostakovich often details the exact 'required' string strength in his Symphonies and its often large - again beyond the practical economics of most orchestras most of the time.
