John, Thanks for such a prompt reply. That performance was a highlight for us and I don't think the choir ever sounded better. Solti had a heavy cold for the Edinburgh performance, but two days later we were confronted by a dynamo and the electricity in the air was palpable. The seating was in four extended rows immediately behind the orchestra, on the platform.
Thanks for the favourable crit. Elsewhere I wrote my own opinion, shadowing yours closely, except that I was harsher on the sound quality, probably reflecting my disappointment that a performance I had hoped would surface, had eventually done so, but sounding like it was recorded of someone's portable cassette recorder.
