Re: Colin Clarke's review of Gieseking's stereo wartime recording of Beethoven's Emperor from January 20
Well, since Colin hasn't responded, I'll respond. In the Fanfare issue of January 2014, reviewing this same recording in Pristine's reissue, Colin writes of the Finale that "it “brings plenty of fire from both pianist and orchestra. Gieseking’s fingerwork is terrific and there is plenty of energy all round”.
He's right. But he should have listened more carefully the first time around.
