Not quite the last word, John: the correct terminology would appear to be that Horenstein gave the first professional public performance. Misha Horenstein refers to a semi-amateur performance before that date, which by the way would seem to answer Chris Howell's query. It is good that Misha Horenstein confirms the venue as the London Festival Hall, as I speculated in my original review, although the paltry documentation with the CD did not state that as a fact. The only remaining query would appear to revolve about the provenance of the recording, which certainly suffers from some panic-stricken adjustments of the recording level, either by the BBC (if the performance was broadcast) or by the person who made the recording - possibly from off the air, or from Misha Horenstein's online posting?
