A fine and illuminating review, which confirms all the good impressions I have of Ms. Ibragimova. It surprises me that you call Nina Koshetz a mezzo, though, Mr. Wright. She may have sounded like one in her later years, but she is always referred to as a soprano, and sang pieces written for that voice type; like many great sopranos, she had an impressive lower register, of course. Try any of the recordings made in the 20s - they can be easily found on YouTube. It occurs to me, fancifully perhaps, that Ibragimova often has a "vocal" style rather similar to Koshetz, capable of dynamically inflecting her legato in order to give the line more expressivity.
