I don't see why the word "waif" used lightly and figuratively here could not equally be applied to one of the pretty boys so obviously marketed as such by some record labels, but let that pass; I admitted that some of the choices of words could be more judicious.
What's wrong with defending fellow reviewers? Reviewing is a harder than some of those who so readily criticise think and I would like to see a more constructive, tolerant and, yes, humorous attitude on their part. Those who review here do so unpaid and for the pleasure of it; I will happily show you several instances where I have gratefully accepted valid criticism made in good spirit and modified a review accordingly.
I see absolutely no incivility on my part in my reply, especially as you seem to share my inference that the contributor was indeed "looking for a scrap". I can't help it if I have a nose for injustice and identify with a fellow reviewer who is wrongly maligned.
