Re: Schubert Symphonies 1 & 2 and the varnish-stripping metaphor
Of course, it's usually the long-varnished version that's the "much-loved" one. Maybe removal of the varnish will take the love with it... Remember the squeals of outrage when the Sistine Chapel was restored to its original state? Said varnish often covers a multitude of sins - perhaps in music too.
