Re: Bach Magnificat recording

Since no one seems able to find a Magnificat involving the Westminster Cathedral Choir, let me offer a conjecture. Judith, is it possible that your memory has conflated the name of the choir with the name of the record label? Hermann Sherchen recorded the Magnificat for Westminster Records (in the late 50s or very early 60s), and CD reissues of this performance have circulated, though I don't know if any is available at present. Ideas about baroque performance have changed since Scherchen's day, of course, but (as today's review of Fritz Reiner's Bach attests), the performances of a great conductor still communicate powerfully, musicological correctness notwithstanding.
