I'd like to thank John France for this illuminating and above all stimulating review (I want this CD!). I heard works by Seiber on the BBC during my misspent youth back in the 50s-60s, was very curious to hear more but let the interest lapse as a result of various life changes (like moving to Germany), so I have been subliminally nursing an aesthetic need for years - though I may have once heard a string quartet on Hessian Radio (HR3). There is only a very minor question to be resolved: John says " It is unbelievable that it has taken until 2015 for Ulysses to be made generally available on record or CD." Does a download count? I checked on Amazon.uk and at once found this: Seiber: Ulysses - American Symphony Orchestra, Christian Reinert, Leon Botstein 16 Apr 2012. I can't unfortunately download this - my computer needs an overhaul, but it is very tempting to be able to compare it with Atherton's recording, I would say. I hope MusicWeb will get round to this!
Thank you for taking part in the MusicWeb International Forum.
