This is a... red herring? Something like that. The Gothic Symphony isn't the longest symphony, but it may come fairly close, among symphonies composed by 1927, to having the largest (or maybe most diverse - Brian was given a challenge of using a large number of different, sometimes almost-obsolete, instruments, iirc, and went at it?...) _orchestration_ (vertical length rather than horizontal, then... including choral orchestration)
(rarely used in all-at-once, massive style, but there and available for small and large subgroups.)
